The Aggie Nation Wants Tyson Ditmore

Posted Jan 6, 2004

Tony Samuel continues to not only court in state talent but he is picking up the best players in the state as well. I know many people were disappointed that Cibola lineman Alan Branch decided to play at Michigan, however, I think instead of being depressed about that we should move on and look at the players that Tony Samuel has brought in and look forward to the players that he will continue to bring in from the great state of New Mexico!

Altoh Las Cruces High School senior Tyson Ditmore will visit the University of New Mexico this weekend, his second official visit of the recruiting season.

The 6-foot-2, 200-pound Ditmore, who has already visited New Mexico State University, was an all-district and all-state performer at receiver and safety for the Bulldawgs, who finished with a 9-2 record this season.

High school players can sign National Letters of Intent next month. College coaches cannot comment on recruits until they officially sign with the school.

“I’m looking forward to my visit to UNM,” Ditmore said Monday. “The program at UNM is on the rise. I like coach Rocky Long. He visited my house and he had good things to say.” Ditmore said college recruiters want him to play safety in college, but he said Long would consider playing him at receiver if that was the best for the team.

“I’m just excited to have the opportunities I do,” Ditmore said. “Playing at the next level is something I have dreamed about.”

Texas-El Paso could also be a factor in Ditmore’s future. Ditmore has talked to UTEP and a visit there is possible, if new coach Mike Price calls Ditmore. If UTEP isn’t in the mix, Ditmore said he will decide between NMSU or UNM in the next couple of weeks.

“I really like New Mexico State as well,” said Ditmore, whose brother Dustin played tight end for the Aggies last season. “I know a lot of the guys and I know the coaches and I get along with them well.”

Ditmore, who was a starter on Las Cruces’ Class AAAAA championship team in 2002, had 42 solo tackles and three interceptions this season. On offense, he caught 43 passes for 764 yards and rushed for another 533. Ditmore scored 10 touchdowns this season.

“I’ve gone through a lot of different scenarios in my mind,” said Ditmore, referring to where he might go to college. “I just have to do what’s best and where I feel most comfortable. There’s a lot of different factors. New Mexico plays in a good conference and NMSU is going into the WAC. I think it’s going to be a win-win situation for me.”
