Aggies Ready for UNM

Posted Sep 21, 2003

One thing has been a constant for the past 57 years, the Aggies and Lobos have met in a football game. In fact, except for a interreption from 1943-45 due to World War II, the two schools have played every year since 1919. While the Lobos lead the series, the Aggies have won three of last last five games -- 28-27 in Las Cruces in 1998; 35-28 in Albuquerque in 1999; and 23-14 in Las Cruces in 2002.

After a tough 28-16 loss at Oregon State last Saturday, the Aggies will took the week off from competition to get ready for their annual showdown with the New Mexico Lobos on Saturday, September 27.

The UNM game will begin a stretch of four games in 20 days as the Aggies host Idaho and travel to Middle Tennessee and UL during that stretch.

A Little About The Lobos

Dwight Counter leads the receiving corps with 159 yards on six receptions for 53 ypg. He did not catch a pass last week against BYU, but still leads the team in yards per game. Overall the Lobos are averaging 484 ypg including 249 ypg passing and 235 ypg on the ground. Defensively,

UNM is allowing 20 points per game and an average of 484 ypg, mostly in the air, where the opposition is averaging 303.7 ypg.
