Record Crowd Enjoys Aggie Football Kickoff Banquet

Posted Aug 24, 2003

A record number of fans and boosters turned out for the annual event at the Holiday Inn de Las Cruces to hear Coach Mike Jordan and Coach Tony Samuel preview the upcoming volleyball and football seasons.

If the 2003 Comcast Kickoff Banquet was any indication, the 2003-04 year should be a great one.

New Mexico State Interim President Dr. William Flores got the crowd fired up with an emotional speech and Aggie Scholarship Association President Mike Lutz had an encouraging word for Aggie players and boosters.

Both the Aggie football and volleyball teams came within minutes of winning a conference championship and advancing to post season play.

Both Jordan and Samuel said they were pleased with last season, but wanted more in 2003.

The Aggie football team kicks off the season on Sunday, August 31 at #5 Texas, a game that can be seen on Fox Sports Net. The Aggie volleyball team, which won a school record 26 matches last year, opens the season next weekend by hosting Stephen F. Austin and UTEP in the Borderland Invitational next Friday and Saturday, August 29-30 at the Pan American Center.
