Versatility might just be the best way to describe senior running back Tony Bostic.

Versatility might just be the best way to describe senior running back Tony Bostic. He’ll play some running back, he’s played on the coverage team on special teams, he’s in the mix to return kicks this year and he will probably see some time at fullback this year as well.

“I just want to get on the field, I just want to play,” said the 5-foot-9, 190-pound Bostic during Thursday’s annual media day event. “I think of myself as a good athlete. I feel like I’ve gotten better every year and I just want to make the best of my senior season.”

Last year, Bostic had his best year running the ball with 254 yards on 52 carries, including games of 42, 43 and 47 yards. “Tony has a lot of confidence in himself and last year he had some good moments for us,” NMSU running back coach Mike Garrison said. “Last year, I probably didn’t let him go as much as I should have. The thing about Tony is that he is extremely versatile and he’s a valuable member of this team. He is solid.”

Bostic was part of a running back corps last year that saw several players step up, which included fullback Marcus Dixon and fellow running backs Walter Taylor, Keith Mouton and Eric Higgins. Only Taylor is gone from last year and in are newcomers Tony Joseph and Muammar Ali.

“We have different guys that can step up and that are versatile,” Bostic said. “We all had confidence in ourselves that we could get the job done and we all had work to do. We just wanted to get the job done and win ball games.” Bostic is eager to get the season under way and have a big senior season. The first game is at Texas on Aug. 31.

“I just want to be a leader out there and be able to help give this team someone to depend on,” Bostic said. “I’m going to give everything I have and try to make as many positive plays as I can out there.”
