Redshirt freshman quarterback Joey Vincent directed the New Mexico State offense on a late touchdown drive to lead the Aggie offense to a 31-23 win over the Aggie defense in the 2003 NMSU Spring Football Game.

Vincent drove the Aggie offense 79 yards in nine plays, culminating in a four-yard touchdown pass to senior tight end Alex Davis.

Vincent completed seven of 13 passes for 99 yards and also ran the ball eight times for 66 yards. He completed three of four passes for 44 yards on the game winning drive including a nine-yard completion to Ronshay Jenkins on third down and seven from the offense 44-yard line. On the very next play, Vincent connected with Chris Lumpkin on a 31-yard pass down to the defense 16-yard line. Vincent then gained 11 yards on the next play and two plays later connected with Davis on the game winning play.

The Offense as a whole played great as the offense was just moving up and the the field, QB's Paul Dombrowski was on fire as The Aggie offense struck quickly in the second half, taking the opening drive and going 65 yard on just four plays, capped by a 40-yard touchdown run by running back Keith Mouton. Dombrowski also had an 11-yard pass play to Lumpkin and a 10-yard run from scrimmage.

Joey Vincent also played well & we are set both on the O-Line & WR as Chris Lumpkin led all Aggie receivers with three catches for 60 yards, all coming in the second half. Chris Duncan had three receptions for 58 yards, sophomore Jared Quick had two catches for 38 yards and senior Ronshay Jenkins had three catches for 27 yards.

HB was also a high spot with Eric Higgins, who played only the first quarter, had 55 yards on nine carries. Redshirt running back Tony Joseph had 26 yards on 10 carries while fellow redshirt freshman running back Muammar Ali had 18 yards on seven carries.

However the game also showed that we are very soft on the D-line as Higgins, who played only the first quarter, had 55 yards on jest nine carries.

At times, NMSU's defense did come on strong "late in the game".thanks to quarterback sacks by linebackers Jimmy Cottrell, Sean Dade and Tim Patrick but they must play better against the run, and the new secondary did play very well to, Free safety Matt Griebel was outstanding and sophomore cornerback Cameron Wright had in interception.

all in all, if NMSU can play better on the D-Line & get to the QB more, we'll be set for this season

& I like to thank all of you who showed up at our CNW Spring Party at Farly's, that was fun. Now it's back in my car for that very, very long drive back to Wisconsin (28.5 hours of lower back & knee pain cause I drive non-stop)

Pease out LC!!!!!!
