In a ceremony today at the Best Western Mesilla Valley Inn in Las Cruces, Governor Bill Richardson signed House Bill 259. This bill provides for $8 million to be matched by $4 million by the university for renovations and additions to the Pan American Center.
The legislation was sponsored by Representative James G. Taylor and received support from the Dona Ana legislative delegation and legislators throughout the state.

Improvements to the Pan American Center to address immediate needs will include improved fan amenities and revenue enhancements, such as new ticketing areas, additional concession stands, a team retail store and new men's and women's restrooms. There will be improved circulation and access proved through expanded entry lobbies and a service/ passenger elevator.
In addition, there will be improvements to "back of house" facilities to include a loading dock and drive-on floor access. New athletic facility additions will involve a practice gymnasium, new lockrooms for men's and women's basketball and volleyball, coaches offices, and training/ treatment areas.
"This bill will have a tremendous impact for the university, the community and for Aggie Athletics," said NMSU Athletics Director Brian Faison. "We appreciate the support of the Governor, the Dona Ana legislative delegation and legislators throughout the state for making this project possible."
